Our Story

Real people solving real problems in tech law

Team discussion

How We Got Started

Back in 2018, three of us were sitting in a cramped downtown Toronto office, frustrated as hell with how traditional law firms were handling tech cases. We'd seen too many startups get burned by lawyers who didn't understand code, patents that missed the mark 'cause the attorney couldn't grasp the actual innovation, and privacy policies that were basically copy-pasted templates.

So we said screw it - let's do this differently. Started small, just the three of us and a shared desk situation. Our first client was a fintech startup that'd been turned down by five other firms 'cause their blockchain implementation was "too complex." We got it though, and helped 'em navigate their licensing mess.

That was the beginning. Now we're a team of seventeen, but we haven't forgotten what it's like to be the underdog trying to build something new.

Innovation

What We Actually Believe

Look, we're not gonna feed you corporate jargon about "synergy" or "thought leadership." Here's what matters to us:

  • Tech fluency isn't optional - Half our team has technical backgrounds. We actually read your code.
  • Transparency over billable hours - We give you flat fees when we can. No surprise invoices for a 6-minute phone call.
  • Accessible doesn't mean amateur - We explain things in plain English, but our legal work is top-tier.
  • Your success is the metric - We don't measure wins by how much we bill. We measure by whether your business thrives.

Maybe that sounds idealistic. But after eight years, it's working.

Team collaboration

The Mission (Without the BS)

We're here to make legal services actually useful for tech companies and innovators. That means understanding your business model, your technology stack, and your growth plans - not just slapping together a standard contract.

Whether you're a solo developer with a patent idea or a scale-up negotiating your Series B, we meet you where you are. We've worked with clients who paid us in equity 'cause that's all they had, and with established enterprises dropping six figures. Everyone gets the same attention to detail.

The future's being built by people who think differently, and they need lawyers who get that. That's us.
